Dear supporters,

Thank you for subscribing to the Centre for Vision in the Developing World email updates.

PARTNERSHIP WITH GLOBAL VISION 2020

We're pleased to announce a new partnership between the Centre for Vision in the Developing World and Global Vision 2020, a US-based non-profit organisation dedicated to bringing self-adjustable eyewear to the developing world through existing aid and development organisations' distribution efforts on the ground. Global Vision 2020 is named after our director Josh Silver's vision for one billion glasses for those who need them by 2020.

The Executive Officer of Global Vision 2020, Kevin White, previously set up the US Military's humanitarian assistance program for adjustable eyewear, which has distributed around 20,000 Adspecs to date in the developing world. Now retired from the US Marine Corps, Kevin hopes to bring his world-leading experience to civilian distribution networks worldwide, enabling development organisations to set up and run their own glasses distribution efforts. By providing training materials and glasses funded by Global Vision 2020 to existing distribution networks, adjustable eyewear becomes available to a much larger number of people than those that can be served by a single organisation.

The Centre will be providing Global Vision 2020 with scientific expertise, training assistance and validation of their efforts. We look forward to working together in the future to bring clear vision to all.

Please visit Global Vision 2020's website at http://www.gv2020.org/ to learn more and donate. The Global Vision 2020 Blog will carry updates and news about our work together and other news about brining clear vision to all - please check it out at http://www.gv2020.org/blog/.

BRINGING VISION TO LIBERIA

As part of our new partnership, the Centre has recently taken part in a glasses distribution pilot project in the West African nation of Liberia, deploying 1000 adjustable glasses and reading glasses to those who need them. The project, co-ordinated by Global Vision 2020, worked with a number of in-country partners to test the effectiveness of self-adjustable glasses and the validity of using existing distribution networks to bring eyewear to those who need them.

You can read more about the project on the Global Vision 2020 website at http://www.gv2020.org/liberia.htm and read more about the background and our impressions from the project at the Global Vision 2020 Blog at http://www.gv2020.org/blog/.

NEW DONATION OPTIONS

If you are a US resident and wish to make any donation to support self-adjustable eyewear and vision correction in general a tax-efficient donation, you can now donate to Global Vision 2020 - Global Vision 2020 is a US-registered 501(c)(3) non-profit organisation and all donations are tax exempt to the extent provided by law.
